My 27 Favorite Things From My 27th Year Kit Whelan November 15, 2012 General Travel It’s my birthday, ladies and gentlemen! While I never give much thought to birthdays, I do think today is a good time to reflect on all the things I’ve done in the last year. Being 27 was pretty excellent. I went to thirteen countries, ate dozens of amazing burgers and generally had a blast exploring this wonderful planet of ours. I like to think I grew up a little more and became ever so slightly more responsible. But only in the fun ways. Here, in no particular order, are my 27 favorite things from my 27th year: 1. Drinking endless cups of Moroccan mint tea. 2. Germany. Yup, the whole country. 3. The Harry Potter Studio Tour. Me in the Great Hall at Hogwarts. 4. Meeting fellow travel bloggers in person in London, Montreal, Dresden and DC. 5. Having tea and walnuts with the mayor of a Moroccan town that isn’t even on the map. 6. Searching for Doctor Who paraphernalia in London and Wales. 7. Finding my way out of a 12-acre corn maze in New Hampshire. 8. Finally traveling with a Kindle. 9. Zeus juice in Marrakech. Rooftop tea with the mayor of a remote Moroccan town. 10. Eating real clotted cream on scones in Southwest England. 11. Moroccan pancakes and cumin eggs for breakfast. 12. Being yelled at for eating veal sausage the wrong way at Oktoberfest. Enjoying a beer larger than my head at Oktoberfest. 13. Reading A Song of Ice and Fire and becoming completely obsessed. 14. Discovering quality Mexican food in Europe. 15. The Maryland Renaissance Festival. 16. Popping down to Switzerland for lunch. 17. Luxury camping. 18. Eating all sorts of crazy delicious burgers. Burger at The Bird in Berlin. 19. Climbing the Alpspitz to look at the highest peak in Germany. 20. Barack Obama being reelected. Sorry to be political on a travel blog, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t one of my favorite things. And if you follow me on Twitter you are definitely not surprised. 21. D Liche cupcakes in Montreal. 22. Strolling the canals in Amsterdam. The canals get crazy during Amsterdam’s Pride Parade. 23. Trying haggis and actually liking it. 24. Being forced to learn some German because, contrary to popular belief, Germans don’t all speak English. 25. Discovering the surprising culinary world of Irish seafood. 26. Shopping at the greatest travel store in the Universe. 27. The fact that I’m still not tired of travel. Can’t wait to see what I’ll enjoy in my 28th year! Stay tuned. :) Bring on the aging! Christina S. Glad we could be part of your year by meeting up in Montreal! Happy belated birthday! Kit Me too! Thank you Christina!
